There’s something about Italy that instantly slows time down. The light, the landscapes, the architecture, the warmth of the culture. It’s no surprise that more couples than ever are choosing Italy and Europe as the backdrop for their wedding celebrations.
As a Toronto-based wedding planner with a love for destination experiences, we’ve seen a major surge in couples looking for more than a traditional ballroom wedding. They want something immersive, elevated and meaningful. They want a wedding weekend that feels like a once-in-a-lifetime experience not only for themselves but for everyone they love.
That growing desire is exactly what inspired our Italy wedding editorial in Urbino, a celebration of modern design, cultural fashion and timeless European charm.
Why Couples Are Choosing Italy for Destination Weddings
Destination weddings in Italy are having a moment and for good reason. Italy offers a rare balance of romance and sophistication, with settings that feel iconic without being overly staged.
Couples are drawn to Italy because it offers:
- Unmatched scenery from historic cities to rolling countryside and coastal views
- Incredible food and wine rooted in regional tradition
- Gorgeous venues ranging from villas to estates to boutique resorts
- A slow-luxury wedding weekend vibe that feels intentional and elevated
- The ability to create a multi-day wedding itinerary that feels like a curated travel experience
Whether you’re dreaming of Tuscany, Lake Como, the Amalfi Coast, Puglia or hidden gems across Italy, the magic lies in the storytelling. Your wedding becomes a true destination experience.
A Modern Italian Wedding Editorial Set in Urbino
Our editorial took place at Tenuta Santi Giacomo e Filippo, a breathtaking estate in Urbino, Italy. The property blends historic architecture with expansive countryside views, creating the perfect canvas for destination wedding design.
The vision was to create an editorial that felt:
- Italian and romantic
- Refined and elevated
- Ornate but still modern
- Soft and intentional, with thoughtful styling choices
- Culturally inspired fashion with a contemporary edge
We leaned into details that feel undeniably Italian, including warm yellow tones and fresh lemons incorporated throughout the tablescape.
This shoot was planned and concept-designed by us, SJ Soirée, with concept design and photography by Strokes Photography, bringing a Toronto creative perspective to a European setting.

The Colour Palette: Green, White and Warm Yellow
For couples planning a destination wedding in Italy, colour palette matters because you want the design to feel like it belongs in the landscape.
For this editorial, we focused on:
- crisp whites
- soft greens
- warm yellows
- organic textures inspired by the venue and countryside
Yellow details and lemons gave the design a Mediterranean feel without becoming overly themed. It felt timeless, modern and grounded in place.
Fashion: Fusion Bridalwear in Italy
One of the most exciting trends in destination weddings is how couples are blending cultural fashion with elevated European aesthetics.
For this shoot, we featured two bridal looks provided by Lotus Bloom, both styled intentionally for different moments of a wedding celebration.
Ceremony Look
A white length ensemble that felt clean, contemporary and ceremonial. Elegant, timeless and incredibly editorial against the Italian architecture.
Cocktail Look
A draped saree with a more playful, celebratory energy. Perfect for a wedding weekend setting, especially for rooftop cocktails, aperitivo hour, or an evening reception with music and dancing.
Accessories including jewelry and a chic bag were also provided by Lotus Bloom to elevate the styling and complete each look.
Florals and Decor That Felt Italian but Modern
For destination weddings, the best design always starts with the setting.
Florals were designed by Silvia Merli to feel organic and effortless with a refined European approach. Rather than oversized arrangements, we focused on:
- airy white florals
- lush greens
- warm yellow tones
- lemons incorporated as design accents
The tabletop and rentals by Nolo Party included elevated, timeless pieces that kept the look classic, with white wrought iron chairs that instantly felt Italian and romantic.
The result was a tablescape that felt like a true destination wedding dinner: beautiful, intimate and natural without feeling over-produced.
How to Plan a Destination Wedding in Italy (Without Feeling Overwhelmed)
Planning a wedding abroad can feel intimidating at first, especially when navigating:
- time zones
- language barriers
- international vendor sourcing
- legal requirements
- logistics for guests
- multi-day wedding planning and production
This is exactly why couples choose full-service destination wedding planning. You need someone who can support both the design vision and the execution, ensuring every detail is accounted for.
When planning a wedding in Italy, we always recommend:
- Start venue search early, especially for peak season
- Build your guest experience first, then design around it
- Choose vendors with destination experience
- Create a wedding weekend itinerary that feels intentional
- Plan for travel days and production timelines
- Focus on local textures and cuisine so it feels authentic to place
